SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Daesang Corporation, a South Korean food and bio company, is accelerating the expansion of its North American allulose business through its global sugar reduction brand Sweevero. In response to growing North American demand for sugar-reduced food and beverage products, Daesang is expanding its allulose supply while leveraging its differentiated technological capabilities and reliable production infrastructure to strengthen its global sugar-reduction solutions business.
Since entering the North American allulose market in 2023, Daesang has strengthened its position by expanding the use of allulose across a broader range of food applications. The company has actively met demand across the beverage, dairy, confectionery, nutrition, and sauce sectors while earning the trust of North American customers through dependable supply. As a result, its North American allulose sales increased by 450% year over year in 2025, and its customer network has expanded to approximately 30 companies, reflecting the rapid expansion of its business within two years of entering the market.
Another factor behind this growth is the shift toward sugar reduction in the North American food market. As consumers place greater emphasis on health and managing their sugar intake, demand for lower-sugar foods is rising, a trend reinforced by recent changes in eating patterns associated with the use of GLP-1 medications. As a result, ingredients and technologies that help reduce sugar while maintaining desirable taste and product quality are gaining importance. Allulose, in particular, is being adopted across an increasingly diverse range of food categories.
Allulose is a rare sugar that occurs naturally in small quantities in foods such as figs and raisins. It is about 70% as sweet as sugar but provides only about 10% as many calories. In carbonated beverages and sports drinks, allulose can reduce sugar content while helping maintain a clean taste and desirable mouthfeel. In processed foods such as jams and ice cream, it can help reduce calorie content while helping maintain desirable taste and texture. In cakes, breads, and other baked goods, it helps create a rich flavor and a moist texture. These functional benefits are drawing attention to allulose as a versatile sugar-reduction ingredient.
Daesang has designated North America as a key strategic market for its allulose and sugar-reduction businesses and is expanding beyond sweetener supply to offer solutions that support food manufacturers in developing lower-sugar products. Through Sweevero, its global sugar reduction brand launched in 2024, Daesang is expanding beyond allulose supply to offer customized solutions that combine allulose, complementary sweetening ingredients, customized blends, and taste modulation technologies. By offering comprehensive solutions that account for both taste and quality throughout the sugar-reduction process, Daesang aims to strengthen its position as a specialized solutions provider in the North American market.
Daesang is building a reliable supply system for the North American market, supported by its in-house production capacity and technical capabilities. In July 2023, the company invested approximately KRW 30 billion to establish a dedicated allulose production facility at its starch and sweetener plant in Gunsan, South Korea. It also holds numerous patents covering enzymes used in allulose production and applications in food products. Daesang uses its dedicated allulose production facility in South Korea to maintain quality and ensure reliable supply, while its U.S. subsidiary strengthens support for North American customers.
Daesang is also stepping up its global outreach efforts. The company regularly participates in major international food and ingredient trade shows, including Natural Products Expo West (NPEW), IFT FIRST (organized by the Institute of Food Technologists), SupplySide Global (SSG), and Food Ingredients Europe (FiE), to showcase the competitive advantages of allulose and Sweevero’s portfolio of sugar-reduction solutions. Through these events, Daesang seeks to develop partnerships with local food manufacturers and attract new customers.
Building on its North American business, Daesang plans to expand into major global markets, including Canada, Latin America, Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia, in line with evolving regulatory frameworks and market opportunities. To support future global growth, Daesang is exploring opportunities to strengthen its production capacity and develop a more regionally diversified supply network, including potential local production in key markets.
“As health awareness and interest in reducing sugar intake grow in North America, demand for allulose is rising rapidly, and its use is expanding into more food categories,” said Hyo-hoon Lee, head of Ingredient Marketing at Daesang. “Through Sweevero, we aim to go beyond supplying allulose by helping customers address the challenges of sugar reduction, particularly in taste and product quality. By combining our production capabilities with customized solutions and taste modulation technologies, we will strengthen partnerships with global food companies and expand our presence in key markets.”
